Household appliances are becoming ever smarter, and the demand for new features is seemingly endless. In particular, the connectivity that brings remote monitoring or control from across the room or across the world is now ordinary.
IEC 60730 “Automatic electrical controls” is a derivative of IEC 61508. IEC 60730 focuses on electrical and electronic controls associated with or used within household appliances – for example, heating and air-conditioning systems. Despite the increasing complexity of their products, household appliance developers need to ensure that the likelihood of injury to persons or damage to property resulting from their use is very low, even in the event of negligence. The primary purpose of IEC 60730 is to define a process to ensure the above quality objectives by providing functional safety for these products.
Considering the importance of IEC 60730, Thermal Control Magazine organised a live interaction on “Standards & Procedures for HVAC Controls: An IEC 60730 Perspective” on 20 Jan 2021 at 11.30 AM.
