ebm-papst, the manufacturer of fans and motors, is strengthening its commitment to India and investing in the expansion of its local production capacities. It is investing INR 340 crore to set up the new facility in Chennai, Tamil Nadu. It aims to be operational by the end of 2026.
The new plant in Chennai is a step towards strengthening the resilience of ebm-papst’s supply chains and a further step in the “Local for Local” strategy. Due to its dynamic growth, India plays an important role in ebm-papst’s strategy for the Asia-Pacific, Middle East and Africa (APAC and MEA) region.
As part of the planned production expansion, ebm-papst has acquired a 57,600 m² (14.2-acre) plot in Chennai. The first phase of the upcoming construction project comprises an area of 23,000 m² and an investment of 36 million euros (INR 340 crore). The production plant, which is expected to be completed by the end of 2026, will enable the company to serve local customers in the APAC and MEA region quickly and flexibly to offer customised solutions.
Atul Tripathi, Managing Director of ebm-papst India, said, “This investment reflects our long-term vision for India. By boosting local production, we are catering to the growing demand of our Indian customers and creating sustainable employment opportunities that contribute to the country’s industrial development. Once fully operational, the plant will employ around 700 people.”
Dr Klaus Geissdoerfer, CEO of the ebm-papst Group, said, “As a technology leader, we are leveraging our glocalisation strategy ‘local for local’ to serve the APAC and MEA region with tailored solutions.” Thomas Nuernberger, CSO of the ebm-papst Group and CEO of Air Technology APAC and MEA added, “By localising production and strengthening supply chains, we are ensuring that we can respond quickly and effectively to the needs of our Indian customers.”
In addition to expanding its production capacity, ebm-papst established a new Global Capability Centre (GCC) in Chennai in 2023. Spanning 2,800 m², this state-of-the-art facility will house 300 specialists dedicated to developing digital solutions for ebm-papst’s intelligent fan technologies and global processes, supporting the digital transformation in the coming years.
