Embraco Atom sets new standard in energy-efficient cooling

Nidec Global Appliance’s newest launch, the Embraco Atom, is redefining residential refrigeration with its compact size, variable-speed technology, and reduced energy consumption. Weighing just 2.5 kg and measuring under 110 mm, Atom is 30% lighter than Embraco’s previous smallest model, making it one of the most space-efficient compressors in its category.

The Embraco Atom introduced by Nidec Global Appliance sets a new standard for home refrigeration. This compact, variable-speed compressor is intended to expand the range of uses for energy-efficient cooling. The Atom weighs just 2.5 kg and measures less than 110 mm, making it 30% lighter than the company’s previous most compact model, the FMS. It is designed for use in premium refrigerators, beverage coolers, and single-door models, encouraging market shift from fixed-speed to variable-speed technology.

Atom replaces conventional metal tubing with a polymeric discharge line to reduce noise and vibration. An ultra-compact inverter that intelligently regulates speed and stabilizes operation is incorporated into the design, which reduces noise by up to 5 dB when compared to standard models.

Atom, which uses the natural refrigerant R600a, has a coefficient of performance (COP) of up to 1.90 W/W. This allows for over 25% energy savings over fixed-speed compressors while meeting global efficiency standards.
Because of its small size, the compressor can produce twice as many units per pallet, reducing storage requirements and transportation emissions. Even in multi-compressor or specialized formats, appliance manufacturers can expand the usable space for food storage and gain greater internal layout flexibility.

The Embraco Atom was formally introduced during AWE 2025 in China and was honoured with the AWE Innovation Award.
