The stainless-steel model 53X with switch-over fitting meets EU Pressure Equipment Directive (PED) requirements and allows continuous operation, allowing strainer baskets to be emptied without interrupting the process.
Eaton, a filtration specialist, is introducing a range of duplex strainer designs to increase process efficiency and avoid downtimes. The stainless-steel model 53X with switch-over fitting meets all EU Pressure Equipment Directive (PED) requirements and allows continuous operation, allowing strainer baskets to be emptied without interrupting the process. These strainers are designed to ensure safety for systems and components, ensuring reliable impurity removal. Eaton strainers are essential safety components in the chemical and petrochemical industries, as well as in water applications across various sectors.
Strainer baskets are essential for maintaining clean process media and end products, protecting system components from dirt and foreign matter damage. They come in various variants with different hole patterns, mesh sizes, and filter fineness grades, ensuring the right solution is available for every particle size.
Wim Callaert, Senior Product Manager in Eaton’s Filtration Division, said, “scheduled maintenance processes check and clean strainer baskets. For simplex strainers, this requires a brief interruption in operation to prevent the conveyed medium from escaping. With duplex strainers, however, the process can continue uninterrupted. By using a manual ball valve, the flow is diverted from one filter chamber to the other.”
“Thanks to the optimised seal of the fitting and an additional sealing ring under the basket, inspection and draining are then practically bypass-free,” continues Callaert. After cleaning, the chamber is simply closed, and during the next inspection and cleaning, the flow is switched back to the original chamber.
The 53X strainer, a PED-compliant strainer, is designed to meet the chemical and petrochemical industry’s requirements. It comes in five nominal sizes (1 inch to 4 inches) with threaded or flanged connections. The filters are made of high-quality cast stainless steel and come with a pressure compensation set for easy switching. Smaller designs are also available upon request.
Depending on the design, the strainers can be used in processes up to 16 bar and 120 °C. For automated monitoring, the filters can be equipped with a differential pressure gauge that can be integrated into the plant’s process control system. The duplex design of the 53X strainer complements Eaton’s existing line of pipeline strainers, which are available for applications in a wide range of industries and processes.
The 53X strainers from Eaton protect system components from damage and conveyed media from contamination. The duplex design allows the strainer baskets to be checked and drained during operation. The dynamic sealing system ensures a long service life and a virtually bypass-free draining process.
