Danfoss reduces the temperature at its European campuses

Danfoss has reduced the temperature in its offices, factories, and warehouses. Danfoss estimates that by lowering the temperature, it could save the equivalent of heating up to 100 households in Denmark alone.

Winter is approaching and Danfoss is turning down the heat in offices, factories, and warehouses to help lower energy demand across Europe.

Danfoss has decided to make its contribution by lowering the temperature at locations across Europe in a range of 3 to 4 degrees Celsius. The locations include factories, warehouses, and offices in Denmark, Sweden, Norway, the UK, Slovenia, Slovakia, France, Italy, and Germany. Danfoss is taking this initiative with the intention to draw the fewest possible resources from the local networks and grids.

“Even though lowering the temperature at our sites won’t solve the energy crisis, we want to highlight to everyone the importance of using the scarce resources as efficiently as possible in the coming winter. Many public sector buildings across Europe are turning down the heat, and we want to follow suit. This is a small action, but it could have a great impact if we all reduce energy demand,” says Kjell Strøm, Regional President for Danfoss North Europe.

“It’s always safety first at Danfoss and our priority is to safeguard the health of our employees, our families, and our communities. Therefore, the specific measures are agreed locally. As an example, in Denmark this means aiming for heating to 18 degrees in our factories and warehouses, and 20 degrees in our offices,” says Kjell Strøm.

“Many public sector buildings across Europe are turning down the heat, and we want to follow suit. This is a small action, but it could have a great impact if we all reduce energy demand.” said Kjell Stroem, Regional President, North Europe Region.

By lowering the heating by 3 to 4 degrees Celsius, employees can go to work safely and comfortably, while simultaneously contributing to saving energy.

“Danfoss is headquartered in Denmark, and we have calculated that by lowering the temperature in Denmark alone, we will save the equivalent of heating up to 100 households. The figure will naturally be larger when you include all our locations across Northern Europe,” Kjell Strøm.

Energy efficiency can mitigate the energy crisis

Danfoss is a global supplier of energy efficiency solutions and has for many years worked to lower energy consumption at its locations around the world. Last year, Danfoss said in its annual integrated report that energy productivity had been improved by 104% in 2021 compared to 2007, and energy intensity was halved between 2007 and 2021.

“Long term, we have to start using energy more efficiently. Energy efficiency is the lowest cost energy option to meet the greenhouse gas reduction targets under the Paris Agreement. Many of these changes aren’t disruptive. There are currently 500 million radiators in the EU that waste energy. If you installed smart thermostats on them, the savings potential could be up to €12 billion annually,” Kjell Strøm.
