Air Handling Unit (AHU) is often used to regulate and circulate air as part of a heating, ventilating, and air-conditioning (HVAC) system. The basic structure of an AHU usually consists of a large metal box containing a blower, heating or cooling coils, filters and dampers.
The basic function of the AHU is to take in fresh air, re-condition it to the required temperature and supply it to a building. AHU also remove the exhaust air and thus creates an acceptable air quality to the building.
In Buildings where there is high level of hygienic requirements, AHU can help to improve the indoor air quality (IAQ) of the building with the addition of various air filtration accessories and air cleaning system. In fact, AHU can play the main roles in preventing the spread of bacteria and viruses in the building.
DB Air Cleaning System – AHU with Five layers of filtration
Dunham-Bush has introduced its new DB Air Cleaning System to fight against bacteria and viruses which includes the recent global pandemic COVID-19 virus. This DB Air Cleaning System paired Dunham-Bush Modular Central Station AHU with FIVE layers of air filtration systems to filters out dust particles and containments as well as eliminating microns particles like mold, bacteria and viruses.
The first layer of the DB air cleaning system, the Pre-filters traps all large dust particles. The second layer of the system, the Electronic Air Cleaner (EAC) captures the smaller particles or the contaminants when the contaminants receive an electrical charge and be attracted to the collector plates. The contaminants are then held in these plates until they are washed away.
The third layer of the system, the Carbon filters has special properties that allow it to remove volatile organic compounds (VOCs), odors, and other gaseous pollutants from the air. The fourth layer of the system, the ultraviolet (UV) lamp which emits the UVC irradiation kills airborne microbes, destroys molds and bacteria in air-conditioning coil, thereby reducing the spread of cold and flu viruses.
The fifth layer and the most important layer of the DB air cleaning system, is the latest plasma air filtration technology system. Plasma air filtration solutions use bipolar ionisation technology to proactively purify indoor air at the source of contamination by producing a natural bio-climate rich in positive and negative oxygen ions. The negative ions contain an extra election while the positive ions are missing an electron resulting in an unstable condition. In an effort to re-stabilise, these bipolar ions seek out atoms and molecules in the air and trade elections with, effectively neutralising and destroying bacteria and virus cell. With these five layers of filtration, DB Air cleaning system allow the eradication of almost 100 percent of bacteria and viruses in the air and thus able to provide clean air to the buildings.
Dunham-Bush Modular Central Station AHU – CS3/SCS3 series
Dunham-Bush Modular Central Station AHU, have an air volume range from 1,000 to 56,000CFM (1,700 to 95,000 m3/hr) with new extruded aluminium frame profile. The entire product line features rigid construction, installation ease, control flexibility, high reliability and versatile functions, which is suitable for both commercial and industrial applications. Dunham-Bush AHUs are able to be customise to meet all kinds of special requirements from high energy efficiency units to clean room solutions.
Dunham-Bush AHUs are certified in accordance with globally recognise AHRI standard 410, AHRI standard 430 and AHRI 1350 by The Air-Conditioning, Heating, and Refrigeration Institute (AHRI). AHRI standard 410 certified the performance of forced-circulation air-cooling and air-heating coils. This ensures the coil cooling and heating capacities are meeting the stated performance. AHRI standard 430 certified the performance rating of central station AHU supply fans to ensure the supply airflow are meeting the requirement. AHRI standard 1350 certified the thermal and mechanical performance rating of central station AHU casings. This standard provides strict test method covered the performance of casing deflection, casing air leakage and thermal transmittance with leakage, thermal transmittance without leakage, and thermal bridging. AHRI standard 1350 is to be equivalent to EUROVENT EN 1886 Standard, another well-known standard in this industry.
These three AHRI certifications help confirm the overall performance of Dunham-Bush Modular Central Station AHU will be satisfaction guarantee. To further enhance its reputation, Dunham-Bush Modular Central Station AHU was also awarded the Certification Program Performance Award by AHRI for achieving 100 percent success rate in this industry – an award which Dunham-Bush AHUs has continuously been awarded since its participation in the AHRI certification program in 2015.
Dunham-Bush AHUs are suitable for various industries including the critical “clean air requirement” industries like hospitals and pharmaceutical plants. Some of the hospital job reference for Dunham-Bush AHUs include Singapore Changi General Hospital, Vietnam Viet Duc Hospital and Malaysia National Heart Institute. In pharmaceutical industry, Dunham-Bush units are fitted in globally recognised United Laboratories and GSK laboratories. Dunham-Bush AHUs are also installed in unique landmark around the world such as the iconic Kuala Lumpur Twin Towers and the prestigious Abu Dhabi presidential palace.
