India is becoming a more mature market. I started coming to India about 20 years ago. At that time I was seeing IP20 units being installed on the roof, which is not supposed to happen with electronics, especially not in this environment. As the market has matured, the installations have also become more professional by following the industry guidelines. Now, we’re also seeing a much higher maturity on digitalisation. OEMs have shown interest to learn more about the individual components of the system so that they can advise their customers in advance before things fail.

The need for air-conditioning is now a necessity for human beings. So, our dependence on air-conditioners for thermal comfort is resulting in emissions from these energy-intensive units, which use potent greenhouse gases as refrigerants, causing further warming and creating a merciless cycle.
Many institutions are globally working on the problem to find efficient cooling without warming the planet. Rocky Mountain Institute released its latest report: Solving the Global Cooling Challenge: How to Counter the Climate Threat from Room Air Conditioners, at the Global Cooling Innovation Summit in New Delhi, India. The report brings to light the need for a breakthrough cooling solution across the world — and particularly in developing countries with hot and humid climates — in order to neutralise the significant economic and environmental impact that air-conditioning growth portends.
The analysis presented in the report shows that rapid scaling and adoption of a residential cooling solution that has five times less climate impact would prevent up to 100 gigatonnes of CO2-equivalent emissions by 2050 and help mitigate up to 0.5°C in global warming by the end of the century.
