Daikin, a global HVAC manufacturer, has enhance heat pump supplies in California to help the state meet its target of deploying six million heat pumps by 2030.

Daikin, a global leader in HVAC manufacturing, disclosed five promises as part of its plan to dramatically enhance heat pump supplies in California. These agreements, including Daikin’s plan to create one million heat pumps, will help the state meet its target of deploying six million heat pumps by the end of the decade.

The California Energy Commission stated in October 2023 that ten of the world’s leading manufacturers, distributors, and suppliers of building heating and cooling equipment had pledged to assist California meet its target of deploying six million heat pumps by 2030. Today’s statement marks the end of an extended engagement with the state of California, and Daikin is the first to reveal tangible efforts towards reaching its goal.

Satoru Akama, CEO of Daikin Comfort Technologies North America, Inc., said, “As one of the world’s largest economies, California’s actions carry significant influence that could inspire other states to similarly prioritise the deployment of heat pumps.” “This collaboration is a testament to our shared commitment to expanding access to such energy-efficient heat pumps in California. We hope the California Heat Pump Partnership can serve as a future blueprint across the U.S., particularly for the critical need of deploying inverter-based heat pumps, which provide energy savings, reliability, and affordability across communities.”

California Energy Commission (CEC) Commissioner Andrew McAllister said, “CEC commends Daikin for its significant commitment of resources and expertise to help the Golden State meet our decarbonisation goals.” “Daikin’s tremendous brand awareness and global reach will accelerate market growth for efficient HVAC heat pumps, improve Californians’ homes, and expand our clean energy workforce.”

Daikin is addressing regulatory and marketplace barriers to promote widespread heat pump adoption in the HVAC industry. The company’s five commitments aim to create the right market conditions, industry training, and consumer awareness to encourage widespread heat pump deployment, aiming to meet carbon emissions reduction goals.

Daikin is committed to maximising its local production capacity and forging a path to one million heat pump solutions in California by 2030.

Daikin plans to expand its workforce and partnerships in California to achieve state goals. This includes opening new distribution locations, branch training centers for heat pump installation, and a sustainability and innovation center. These locations will showcase the benefits of inverter heat pumps and decarbonisation technologies.

Daikin is partnering with California utility companies to expedite the transition to inverter-based heat pumps. The collaboration will involve increasing education about inverter technologies, creating incentive programs, and developing products that enhance efficiency and reduce panel upgrades costs for the widespread adoption of these technologies.

Daikin will continue to spearhead the introduction of the new California Heat Pump Partnership, as well as the formulation of a plan to install six million heat pumps by 2030. This will encompass consumer marketing, workforce and community college training, supply chain integration, and government collaborations to increase the use of inverter-based heat pumps.
