Interactions between fan and application

15

Retrofitted axial fan and radial fan curbs the noise-generating turbulence in the inflow without affecting the air and absorption performance.

The right solution for every installation situation

Fans are complex flow machines whose behaviour in operation is strongly influenced by their installation situation. Therefore, the fan is often not as quiet as hoped as or less efficient in the application than the information in the data sheet promises. For the choice of the optimal fan, ebm-papst already supports its customers in the development of the device.

Take into account the installation situation during development

Today, modern radial and axial fans work very efficiently and quietly. Built into an application – or under real installation conditions – their behaviour changes when the inflow or outflow conditions are disturbed. Environmental factors such as flaps, filters or protective grilles can influence the airflow. The actual impact of these factors in operation can only be estimated to a limited extent with typical selection programs in advance.

Decades of experience in fan development

For this reason, ebm-papst is already taking into account experience gained over decades in the development of a fan. The example of the RadiPac fans shows how enormously the early consideration of the installation situation during development influences the results during use. Here, ebm-papst has not only optimised the impeller, motor and the control electronics in terms of energy efficiency and noise emission, but has also included the real installation situation in RLT devices in order to achieve an optimal result (in the application).

FlowGrid improves noise

If the selected fan is too loud or not efficient enough, passive components such as the FlowGrid pre-guideline grille can reduce unpleasant effects even when already installed. When axial and radial fans are retrofitted with this, this drastically reduces the noise generating turbulence in the inflow without affecting the air and absorption performance.

Optimum result through early co operation

In order to be on the safe side from the beginning, the fan manufacturer should be involved in an early development phase of its own device. For fans large and small, it can be equally worthwhile to analyse and evaluate the flow situation in the application in detail and thus to find suitable optimisation measures or the fan that is most suitable for the installation situation.

Flaps and filters can hinder the air flow in RLT systems and the distance to walls and heat exchangers as well as the use of protective grilles also have an impact, so the real installation situation must be considered at an early stage in order to achieve an optimal result at the end of development.

The FlowGrid is suitable for radial fans (left) and axial fans (right) and can reduce unpleasant noise effects even when already installed.
