LEMS brings IoT solutions for cold chain industry

Lateral EM Soft Pvt. Ltd. or LEMS is an electronics engineering company specialised in real time embedded systems. After establishing its presence in Indian market, the company is increasing its footprint in global markets. Excerpts from an interview with the company’s Managing Director Nagarajan Govindarajan:

Established in the year 2006, LEMS is a renowned company in tracking & monitoring system. What are the technologies and solutions you offer for cold chain industry?
We design and manufacture IoT (Internet of Things) solutions for the cold chain industry. We offer solutions to cover the entire gamut of cold chain industry with the motto of “Monitoring Factory 2 Warehouse 2 Distributors 2 Retail chain”. Our solutions are built on wireless technologies including GPS, GSM, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, RFID etc., to provide a real time visibility of the conditions under which the products are stored, transported and sold.

In the temperature monitor domain we offer three solutions: Kryo – 100 Series, Frigo – 100 Series, and Frio – 100 Series.

Kryo – 100 Series helps in real-time monitoring of temperature, humidity, CO2 level of cold warehouse, cold rooms and is suitable for temperature sensitive product manufacturers. Frigo – 100 Series helps in real time monitoring of temperature of freezers and coolers whereas Frio – 100 Series helps in real time monitoring of the temperature of reefer vehicles.

The Govt has recently approved 27 new integrated cold chain projects worth Rs. 743 crore. What opportunities can the move bring for tracking & monitoring system industry?
Cold chain industry is one of the fastest growing industries. These new integrated cold chain projects will only push the growth further upwards. The projects need to be backed up by technology solutions which will add value. These scattered projects can be monitored remotely and in real time from anywhere and the huge data generated can be analysed to make these projects more effective.

How competitive is the market? What makes your company stand out in a crowd of competitors?
IoT solution providers offer many generalised solutions however our solutions are more pointed towards the requirement of the industry and the experience we have in implementing solutions in small- to large-scale spanning different geographical areas gives an edge from others. All our products are CE certified, sensors calibrated from NABL, software conform to various quality norms including CFR 21.

Brief us on the importance of real time temperature monitoring system in the cold chain industry.
Monitoring temperature and other critical parameters in real-time has always been a big challenge for food products manufacturing companies, professional warehousing and distribution companies. Running the operations in the absence of proper tools often leads to dip in the sales, return of products, loss of revenue, and erosion of brand value.

What makes your temperature monitoring system unique?
Our solutions are designed based on the market requirements and shaped up by the customers’ feedback. Our products come with the required hardware, software, mobile apps and data integration facilities.

Your dream is to make the company ‘global’. How far you have been able to achieve?
We are already operating in multiple countries in the Middle East and recently entered in the African markets and dream is to enter the European and the US markets.

What are your plans for the next few years?
We are aiming to integrate more relevant and latest technologies in our product and evolve as default choice for the industry.
